W矛djideyamawowin brings together Craig Commanda’s work in film, video, beadwork, and other media. Also known as a poet and musician, this artist from Kitigan Zibi territory (near Maniwaki, Quebec) presents work which is a meditation on being, identity, and culture.

Biography

Craig Commanda is an Anishnaabe multi-disciplinary artist from Kitigan Zibi First Nation, whose work encompasses film, music, beadwork, poetry, photography, traditional crafts, hide tanning, and digital fabrication. 聽He holds a BFA in Film Production from Concordia University.聽 His films have been screened at imagiNATIVE film + media arts festival (Tkaronto/Toronto), as well as across Turtle Island, and at festivals in聽 Switzerland and new Zealand.聽 He has shown beadwork at the Ottawa Art Gallery, SAW Gallery (Ottawa), Montreal Arts Contemporain, and at Pierre Fran莽ois Ouellette art contemporain (Tiohti脿:ke/Montreal) and participated in art fairs in Montreal, Toronto, and the 聽Revelations Biennale in Paris).聽 In 2023, he completed a music residency at the Banff Centre.聽 Currently, his practice is based in Montreal/M貌niyang.
