Indigenous Peoples鈥 Week
Ionkwat贸nhahere (we are celebrating) 鈥 Indigenous Peoples鈥 Week 2025
Ionkwat贸nhahere is a kanien鈥檏茅ha word that means 鈥榳e are celebrating鈥. Organizers of Indigenous Peoples’ Week at 成人黑料 are putting the emphasis on all the incredible contributions that First Nations, Inuit and M茅tis Peoples make in all facets of life. The dates for Ionkwat贸nhahere – IPW 2025 will be from Monday, March 31st to Thursday, April 4th. Activities will be organized in two separate streams: cultural programming specifically for Indigenous students at Dawson, and broader educational activities for the entire Dawson Community. Stay tuned for more information. A complete schedule will be published at the beginning of March.
Are you a teacher who would like to bring your class to an IPW activity? Please email Ben Lander to coordinate dates, times, topics, and number of participants.
Black History Walk & Talk on Feb. 12
Paul Wasacz of Physical Education will be leading a group of employees on a Black History Month Walk & Talk on February 12 at 12 PM. The guided walk will last two hours. Employees, with manager approval, can use a lunch hour plus a well-being hour to participate. Faculty is also welcome.
Here is Paul鈥檚 description of the activity: 鈥Little Burgundy Black History Walk: Participants will visit many landmarks that helped shape and support the Black community of Montreal. I take a walk down memory lane through the eyes and words of my father-in-law who was born in 1933 and illustrate struggles he had to endure while living in Montreal as a Black man over several decades. Some stories are difficult to hear but they are unfortunately very relatable to many. The walk will last approximately 2 hours.鈥

Student Communications – A Pilot Project
A pilot project intended to improve student communications practices at the College, all newsfeed and event postings in both the Academic and Student Omnivox communities will be populated and scheduled by staff in the Communications Office.聽 These two communities will be merged into one 鈥淪tudent鈥 community that will receive priority in the newsfeed over posts from other Communities.
The purpose of this effort is to streamline and curate content going to students. A unified institution-wide approach to student communications is needed to ensure we are all pulling in the same direction. If we are more careful to curate the timing and release of information and complement it with the (new!) weekly student news bulletin, College screens and other tools, we believe we will have a better success rate in making sure students get the information they need and want.
To facilitate this initiative, moving forward, the Communications Office will be creating one centralized input form for promotional requests across a variety of channels:
- Homepage slider
- Omnivox student newsfeed
- Omnivox student events calendar
- College screens
- Social media
- D News
- D Announcements
- Events calendar
- Weekly Student News Bulletin (new!)
- News media
More details to come later in February.
Brown-bag Conversations: Generative AI
To start the discussions this semester, the first two sessions will return to a topic that was first considered in October 2023: generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. Given the profound, wide-ranging impacts of generative AI in higher education and society at large, the Dawson community needs to reflect on how it wishes to respond to AI鈥檚 potential while addressing its challenges.
These sessions will take place in the boardroom (5B.13) at the following times:
Wednesday, 12 February, 2:30-4:00 p.m.
Tuesday, 25 February, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Even if a topic does not directly relate to your work, members from all parts of the Dawson community are welcome to join the discussions. As these events are informal, people may drop in and leave as their schedules permit.
