Campus Life and Leadership (Student Services) is hosting a Corn Roast for students this Friday, Sept. 9 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. outdoors on the Atwater side of the campus. All employees are welcome to attend during their lunch hour or break. There will be corn, hot dogs and drinks for $1 each for employees.

The second-year students in the Professional Theatre Department are proud to present Peter and the Starcatcher by Rick Elice, directed by Jonathan Monro. This Tony-award-winning play is an adaptation of Peter Pan, and is a thrilling adventure about love and friendship. Featuring music, singing, and a dozen actors portraying more than 100 unforgettable characters, Peter and the Starcatcher uses ingenious stagecraft and the limitless possibilities of imagination to bring the story to life.
The play is being performed Wednesday, Sept. 21 to Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. at Dawson's Theatre. Pay What You Can: Cash donations at the door.
Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer will offer perspectives on Indigenous sciences and western science in her Peace Week keynote address, entitled Confronting Western Science Epistemology, online at Dawson at 2 p.m. on Sept. 15. In her publications and her speaking engagements, she proposes a revolutionary way to rethink how we approach the land and the natural sciences.
Kimmerer听is a mother, scientist, decorated professor and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. She is a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Environmental Biology and the founder and director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment, whose mission is to create programs which draw on the wisdom of both Indigenous and scientific knowledge for our shared goals of sustainability.
Her interests in restoration include not only restoration of ecological communities, but restoration of our relationships to land. She holds a BSc in Botany from SUNY ESF, an MS and PhD in Botany from the University of Wisconsin and is the author of听numerous听scientific papers on plant ecology, bryophyte ecology, traditional听knowledge听and restoration ecology.

In an annual tradition that never fails to awe employees and students with the beauty of Nature, the Sustainability Office distributed 100 Monarch Butterfly chrysalises to employees throughout the College, including to the staff of the First-Year Students鈥� Office, pictured.
鈥淭aking care of the butterflies together helps us take care of each other and Nature,鈥� said Jenn de Vera, project lead. 鈥淭his is the most wonderful time of the year at Dawson! Our priority is to involve new people every year and spread the joy.鈥�
At the time of publishing D News, a little more than half the chrysalises had eclosed and all were expected to eclose by the weekend. Every day at 12 p.m. this week, butterflies will be released in the Peace Garden. All are welcome.
