A total of $ 127,250 has been distributed through the 成人黑料 Financial Aid Bursary (DCFAB) to 182 students to date. The average bursary was $699.
As a response to the economic hardships brought about by the pandemic, the DCFAB was set up last fall by the Dawson Student Union (DSU), the Student Services team of the College and the 成人黑料 Foundation (DCF). The Minist猫re de l鈥橢nseignement sup茅rieur聽has provided additional support.
鈥淲e are working to ensure that Dawson students can continue their education without interruption. The creation of the DCFAB reflects our commitment to promote excellence in education, especially during difficult times," said Ursula Cabral of the DCF.
Students can continue to apply for the bursary through the DCF website.
Donations are still needed to keep helping our students in this unprecedented situation.

First Peoples鈥� Week, the annual celebration of Indigenous peoples鈥� histories and cultures, returned to 成人黑料 after being pre-empted by the initial COVID-19 lockdown. The weeklong event took place March 29 to April 1 and featured a great selection of Indigenous knowledge keepers, representing many of the various Indigenous peoples in Quebec.
Event organizers included The First Peoples鈥� Centre, Campus Life and Leadership, The Decolonization and Indigenization Studies Certificate, and the Dawson Peace Centre. This year鈥檚 edition was hosted virtually. While it was different from previous years; it was no less of a success.
There were 16 activities in total, ranging from traditional knowledge sharing, painting, musical performances, and a comedy show featuring Dawson graduate Tai Leclaire, who has recently made his television-writing debut on the Peacock network sitcom Rutherford Falls.
Other highlights include a presentation from Aronhiaies Herne from Akwesasne, Mohawk Territory, on the ceremony cycle of the Haudenosaunee peoples. In addition, an Indigenous Fashion and Arts Roundtable was held featuring Anishnabe artist Cedar-Eve and Eeyou Elder Joanie Saganash. The round table was moderated by Metis-Salteaux artist Dayna Danger.
Student and faculty participation exceeded expectations, thanks in no small part to faculty who welcomed virtual presentations into their classes. The number of attendees was similar to what we would鈥檝e expected if we were able to be in person. There was excellent student participation as well, which is what makes the programming worth the hard work.

The Campus Life and Leadership (CLL) team is looking for 2-3 judges to choose the winners of a singing competition, co-hosted by the Dawson Student Union. In addition to prizes, the winners will be entered as Dawson's representatives in the annual intercollegiate Unplugged singing competition. The judges are provided with a criteria sheet, along with the rules and guidelines that the students receive. They will have at least five days to review all the submissions in the comfort of their own home. Winners will be announced April 19.

Dawson's Earth Week is fast approaching. We are reaching out to any staff, faculty or student who would like to contribute a piece of art: canvas painting, digital painting prints, photographs, sculptures, etc. to this year's Earth Week fundraiser. The theme for the pieces is anything nature, animals, sustainability, Earth. They will all be put up for sale online between April 19 and April 30. Your name and/or social media accounts will be mentioned, and all the money raised will help fund Dawson's beautiful Peace Garden.

In September of 2020, Dawson鈥檚 COVID-19 Steering Committee approved the creation of a student peer mentoring initiative. The plan was to assemble and train a team of second- and third-year students who would mentor new students adjusting to the remote learning environment.
