8th Annual Peace Week is Sept. 13-21
Welcome Back one & all! Come and join the ³ÉÈ˺ÚÁÏ Peace Centre for our 8th Annual Peace Week. This year we examine our theme, Exultation: Queer Freedoms and Futures. This year we are challenging our communities to ask the question, what does the world look like with complete freedom of expression, safety, and unconditional love for all genders and sexual identities?
Gender and sexual freedom is abolition from colonialism, patriarchy, and heteronormativity. When we speculate a world predicated on radical love and inclusion, emancipation from oppressive systems naturally follows.
Exultation celebrates the rich history of queerness in our global history and asks us all to dream of a world where abolitionism from colonial gender and sexual norms is reality. Every year, we begin our collaboration with the Sustainability Office to offer sessions in the gardens with your students. They will get their hands dirty, learn about Sustainability initiatives at the College, and critically this is an incredible way to create a sense of group cohesion through an amazing hands-on co-curricular activity!
What about our speaker line-up? It is our immense pleasure to collaborate with the Humanities Public Life Conference! You will be treated to wisdom of Kama La Mackerel & Maurice Riley Case in their conversation Towards Liberation: Black, Queer and Joyful, author KB Wagers will speak to Writing Queer Lives, in her many Sci Fi series, and the genius of poet academic Kelsey Smoot, who introduce their audience to how they tackled their PhD research in, Mirrors: A Curation of Black Queer Poetry, Narrative, and Thought.
