Frequently Asked Questions
All permanent Professional employees are eligible for immediate benefits coverage. Contract, temporary, and occasional Professional employees are not eligible for immediate group insurance coverage and are paid an additional premium in lieu of these benefits. Their eligibility is established in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement and the group insurance plan.
Participation in the basic health insurance plan is mandatory for all eligible Professional employees. However, a Professional employee may request to be enrolled with an exemption from health insurance if the employee can provide proof that he or she has similar coverage under a different private group insurance plan.
As per Beneva’s current contract, eligible Professional employees may choose between four optional health insurance plan options, each of which offers a different level of coverage, in addition to the compulsory basic health plan. Basic health is mandatory unless insured with a different private group insurance plan. Basic life insurance and long-term disability insurance are also mandatory. Dental insurance and additional life insurance are optional.
Professional employees who continue to pay their group insurance premiums will experience no interruption in coverage during an approved paid leave such as maternity, paternity or disability.
Professional employees with questions about leaves of absences with or with pay, voluntary workload reductions, and other time away from work should contact Benefits at benefits@dawsoncollege.qc.ca.
